Barber G. Buell was a farmer who lived in Little Prairie Ronde, Volinia Township, Cass County, Michigan. He was born in Newport New Hampshire in 1823. The Michigan State Grange was formally organized on April 15, 1873 at the Court House in the Village of Kalamazoo. The formation united the twenty local Granges that had already been established in 1872. The first local grange organized was Burnside Grange #1 on January 10, 1872 in Lapeer County.
